After checking out the light show on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, we decided to have dinner nearby. After walking up and down endless streets of jewelry stores, we finally ducked into a mall hoping to find a food court or a decent restaurant. The mall was filled with lots of eating options but of course we opted for the place with the longest lineup. The lineup in front of Din Tai Fung was so gigantic, we had to push our way to the front door to put down our name.

The wait wasn’t very long, in about 20 to 30 minutes, we were finally seated. Din Tai Fung is one of Hong Kong’s many Michelin-star awarded restaurants. Started in Taiwan, Din Tai Fung now has restaurants in Hong Kong and Singapore. Their signature item are xiao long bao, soup dumplings. They even serve a black truffle dumpling which was way out of our price range but their regular xiao long bao and spicy crab xiao long bao were still exceptionally tasty.

We also ordered some more substantial items like soup noodles and a breaded and fried pork chop. Both were tasty but not as special as the xiao long bao.

One of my favourite items was the taro paste stuffed steamed buns. I love steamed buns as they are but stuffed with sweet and creamy taro paste: even better! And the steamed buns at Din Tai Fung were so soft and fluffy, they’re hard to resist.

I still have dreams of Din Tai Fung’s dumplings and steamed buns.
